Earlier this month we gave y’all each of our approaches to creating our own wedding registries. This week we are going to walk you through the major categories you should review when creating your registry. At the end of this post, you can download our FREE wedding registry checklist with over 250 items! You won’t run out of ideas for your registry when you use our checklist.

Household Items (go room by room)

Let’s face it kitchen items will make up the majority of your registry. There’s so many gadgets, appliances, dishes, and glasses that it can be overwhelming. If you choose to do an all online registry, such as Amazon, you can order a few options then return them to help you determine which is right for you. Ashley was super picky about silverware and used this approach to find the right set. Walk through each room in your house and make a wish list. Remember that items might not be what you will use, but what guests will use when visiting. When you create your registry, this is the time to find quality items that you might not necessarily splurge on if you purchased it on your own. Look for nice sheets, towels, pillows and tableware.

Outdoor Items

When deciding on items for the outdoors, think about if you will be doing yard work, playing games, having bonfires, or need tools and other items for your garage. Remember to think about year round….a lawn mower might pop in your head but what about a snow blower for the winter time if you’re in the cold.

Entertainment

What do you need to entertain people at your house? Be careful because you can get out of control with how many platters and food display items are on the market these days. You can also think about holiday entertaining. Do you want a certain set of mugs for Christmas time? Add them to the list! Since we’re on the topic of holidays, if you need holiday items such as an artificial Christmas tree or other holiday decor it’s a great idea to include them as well. People love buying items that you will use and remind you of them.

Experiences

Not all registries have to include physical things. You can ask for guests to purchase an experience for you and your fiancé. There’s nothing wrong with a romantic cooking class or skydiving on your honeymoon. The possibilities are endless!

Hobbies

Think about what you and your fiancé enjoy doing together and see if there is equipment or other things you can ask for. We both enjoy camping, kayaking, board games, and outdoor games with our significant others so it was a no brainer to include accessories and games on our registries.

Funds/Gift Cards

Websites have easy to use funds that you can set up on your registry. This allows you to ask for money to use towards something such as your honeymoon or a house. We caution you to check the fine print to see if the website you are using includes a service fee and who gets hit with it. You don’t want guests or yourself to be paying a high percentage on your funds you receive.
