We grow up dreaming about the most important dress we will ever wear: our wedding dress. It is the second most important “yes” we say during our engagement and there’s this pressure to pick the “perfect” dress. But why? We want to find something that shows off our personality and confidence. We can’t compare ourselves to the models on Pinterest. We need to focus on what works for us, within our budget, and make the best of our wedding dress shopping experience. We are sharing some of our tips to make the most of wedding dress shopping!
Do your research before going shopping. Take some time to look up local bridal shops and the dress designers they carry. Every store is different, and you do not want to waste time at a bridal shop that does not offer styles or designers you are interested in. In addition, make sure the bridal shop offers dresses within your budget. Nothing is worse than going to a store where you cannot afford their dresses.
Try on all different styles. Everyone says it and it is so true! Even if you have no interest in a certain style, try it on just to check the box and be fully confident it is not what you want. Not to mention a style may look completely different on the hanger just like when you are regular clothing shopping. It is too common where brides end up purchasing a style completely opposite of what they had envisioned.
Do not get discouraged. Finding the dress of your dreams can take time, so be prepared it might not be the first dress you try on. Also remember there are thousands of dresses out there for you to try on. If you end up not finding the exact one, you can consider having a custom dress made.
Bring accessories with you shopping. If you already have your wedding day shoes or veil picked out, bring them with you when you try on wedding dresses. This will help give you the full look as you try on dresses. Also, bring undergarments with you. Some dresses you won’t need undergarments with since they can build cups into the dress, but it’s always safe to wear a nude thong and bring a strapless bra and any Spanx you think you might wear.
Save money on your wedding dress. Bridal shops sometimes have sample sales – take advantage of those! Also, some stores offer a discount if you purchase your dress on your first visit. If this is the case, shop at a different store first to narrow down the style you like then go to the store that offers the discount. Lastly, check out bridal groups on Facebook. Especially with so many Covid brides forgoing their weddings, you can snag great deals on dresses that still have tags on them.
Best of luck wedding dress shopping! We hope you enjoy your wedding dress shopping experience like we did.
