When it comes to planning the small details of your wedding, wedding favors are another thing you will have to decide if you include in your big day or skip. There is no right or wrong answer to having wedding favors or deciding to forego them. There are a few different things to keep in mind when making that decision.
First and foremost, decide if this is important to you and your fiancé. If the answer is no, then that’s an easy decision! However, if the answer is maybe… or yes… or even I’m not sure yet, then you need to figure out if you have room in your budget for this. If you decide this is a special touch you want to add to your day, then make sure you select something that fits within your budget.
If you decide favors are a must have, like we did when planning our own weddings… try to pick something meaningful and useful. These don’t have to be overly expensive or elaborate, but something that your guest will be able to use and reminds guests of you and your significant other. Also keep in mind where your wedding is. If you are having an outdoor wedding in the middle of summer, maybe skip any food items that could possibly melt. Or if you are having a destination wedding, traveling with favors might be something that adds unneeded stress. You could search for a favor more local to your wedding venue, or plan to have the favor mailed ahead of time.
If you decide to do a DIY project for your favors, try to avoid something that must be made close to your wedding day, like food. It is better to pick something that you can make beforehand and have prepared for your wedding. The week before your wedding somehow becomes the busiest week even when you have most things planned out! This is not the extra stress you want to add to that week.
Your wedding day is you and your significant other’s day. There is no right or wrong when it comes to weddings and how you two want your day to be and what to be included. So, if favors are not something you see as important, then don’t think twice about skipping them! Your guest will not care either way. If you want to save money and not purchase a physical favor to give away, but still have something at your wedding in place, you can make a donation in lieu of favors to a charity special to the two of you and add a note card or add this in a frame on your gifts table to let your guests know a donation was made in their honor. This is a great alternative to wedding favors.
