In honor of Mother’s Day yesterday, we are letting our moms take over the blog and share their advice on planning a wedding with your daughter.
First up… Ashley mom’s Teri talking about planning not one but two weddings at the same time.
Double weddings, double the fun!
I am the mother of 2 children, both of which are getting married in the same year, one month apart. Stressful…yes, but the key to staying ahead of the stress is to be extremely organized (and getting a lot of sleep).
As we all know, there is no shortage of pre-wedding festivities. I have developed a system with dual calendars and file folders to keep all the pertinent information handy, along with checklists. The brides-to-be are both very organized, but I have reminders and things that I am responsible for as well. I use sticky notes for things that need my attention in a day or two, everything else is on a calendar.
Going through a big life moment needs to be special for both couples and unique. As these weddings are less than one month apart and the same family and some friends will be in attendance at both, I try to incorporate personal touches and special little things that make the weddings stand apart. These are “my little secrets” and these items go on a list that the brides are not allowed to see. I just hope that I remember where I put things and don’t forget where the list ends up.
It might be hectic with two weddings so close together, but there are a couple of benefits of dual weddings in the same year:
- I only have to diet once!
- My family is doubling in size! I am so excited that they all found the loves of their lives!
Bring it on!

Next, Shannon’s mom Laurie talks about her experience with a Covid Bride.
Like nothing I have experienced before. Seeing and hearing her excitement and disappointment while managing my own was emotionally exhausting. I remember listening to her my heart aching but remaining positive, her cheerleader, hanging up and balling for me, for her Dad, and for her. She is our only daughter and planning for a day she has thought of since she was a little girl should not be fraught with disappointment and challenges.
The strongest feelings and ones that outnumbered the others were PRIDE and LOVE. Seeing her manage thru every obstacle with the support of a man who truly loves her made everything seem ok. Her father and I watched two people who deeply love each other manage to hit the curve ball out of the park. For this we are fortunate.

We hope you gain a tip or two from them and Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms, mommas to be and fur moms!
